Small repairs in San Jose.
I live here, so San Jose is the one city where a short job is worth the drive on its own. Everything else usually wants two or three tasks in the same visit.
The houses here
Post-war ranch houses
Cambrian, Blossom Valley and much of Willow Glen went up between the late forties and the sixties. Original hollow-core interior doors, hinges with screws that stopped holding years ago, and angle stops under the sink that have not been turned since the house was built. That is the bulk of my work.
Kitchens and baths updated piecemeal
A faucet from one decade, a disposal from another, a vanity someone put in themselves. Nothing wrong with it, but it means the thing behind the new fixture is rarely what the box assumes.
Second storeys added later
A long carry up a narrow stair changes a one-hour job into a two-hour one. It is in the price, not a surprise at the end.
What San Jose calls about
Toilets and faucets lead by a wide margin, then doors that will not latch, then televisions. In the older streets a single visit usually ends up covering four or five small things at once.
